Federico Barocci (1528-1612)Federico Barocci was an Italian artist at the transition from Renaissance to Baroque. Most of his paintings are of religious issue, because he mostly worked for princes of the church.
Particularly interesting is therfore his 1598 painting "Aeneas' Flight from Troy". It is obvious that the artist wanted te depict the scene with costumes and architecture from the ancient world as perfect as possible. Of course he had no idea of Trojan architecture and dresses and shows therefore how Italians at the 16th Century imagined an ancient city.
Nevertheless were these ideas still pretty new. Most artists of this period were still depicted historical persons in contemporary costumes.
