Jan Massys (c.1509-1575)Jan Massys was a Flemish Renaissance painter. He specialized in beautiful nude women who he showed in a biblical or classical backdrop. Especially because he seemed to have preferred a special type of women it is nearly impossible to distinguish a Bathsheba from a Venus or a Suzanne from a Flora.
The historical is only a kind of excuse to present the nudes in their transprent veils. The architecture which can be seen in the back is often Dutch or sometimes Italian but always from the actual era.
